Raining
Data Corporation (Nasdaq: RDTA), a long-time provider of scalable,
flexible and reliable data management software, today announced
the version 1.6 of its innovative TigerLogic™ XML Workflow Management
Server (XWMS) software. TigerLogic XWMS includes a visual designer
tool that enables drag & drop creation and re-use of workflows
that can be deployed to the XWMS runtime workflow engine. TigerLogic
XWMS is bundled with Raining Data’s TigerLogic XML Data Management
Server (XDMS) to provide a platform to support XML-centric applications.
As XML
documents become more prevalent and as enterprises leverage
common data across more applications, the need for XML data
workflow management is becoming more important. Additionally,
as applications and business processes have started moving away
from being silos or watertight compartments of functionality
and business logic to a loosely coupled architecture, the underlying
data components that support the new architecture must move
in the same direction. According to Gartner, “By 2010, more
than 50 percent of early adopter organizations migrating toward
SOA will fail at their first attempts, due to a lack of rigor
in enforcing data governance and information management policies.”(1)
The TigerLogic XWMS allows for enterprise Service Oriented Architectures
(SOA) success by enforcing data governance & information
management policies and enables the delivery of the “right”
data to consumers or consuming applications such as SOA, Business
Process Management (BPM), Extract, Transform & Load (ETL)
data warehouse processes or RFID-enabled Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP) applications.
“Organizations
are using Enterprise-wide Information Management (EIM) programs
to achieve process efficiency and improve data transparency
across operational silos. One of the first steps in EIM is to
formalize data governance and stewardship activities through
automated workflows and collaborative solutions which include
all forms of data and content throughout the business,” according
to David Newman, Research Vice President at Gartner.
The TigerLogic
platform delivers data governance by providing enterprises with
the tools and technologies to effectively manage high-value
data or information across the organization. It sits on top
of current technologies like ESB, EAI or ETL, and helps organizations
effectively manage data quality and information. The workflow
designer allows enterprises to quickly model data governance
workflows including collaboration among data stewards and then
deploy data governance workflows to the runtime workflow engine
for real time execution. An underlying XML data management server
manages and persists the metadata plus operational data and
provides audit information (who, what, when, where), improved
visibility, data quality monitoring and reporting while harmonizing
key information across enterprise systems.
Morris
and Dickson, one of the largest drug wholesalers in the United
States, has deployed the TigerLogic ePedigree Data Governance
Solution to comply with the industry drug pedigree regulations.
The company is now looking at other data governance areas to
deploy the next generation TigerLogic XML data management and
workflow platform. “We were able to quickly and successfully
deploy the TigerLogic platform to meet our Pedigree regulatory
and data governance requirements which has provided us with
a competitive advantage. Working with Raining Data and the TigerLogic
platform enabled us to meet our deadlines as well as our budget.
We are now planning to use the TigerLogic Workflow Management
Server to solve other data governance and B2B challenges,” said
Paul West, Director of IT at Morris and Dickson.
TigerLogic
XWMS Technology
The
TigerLogic XWMS comes with a model-driven workflow designer
tool and runtime workflow engine.
Visual,
Model Driven Drag & Drop Workflow Design Tool for
Business Users and Technical Developers
The
workflow designer tool is built on the Sun Microsystems NetBeans
framework and facilitates the intuitive modeling of real world
use cases. This design time component comes with a fully customizable
taxonomy of reusable data services, a simple yet attractive
drag & drop modeling canvas, a full-featured menu of options
and configurations, zoom-in and zoom-out capability and one-click
workflow model alignment. To provide integration with any backend
data source and service requests to the overarching applications
or business processes, the workflow designer tool supports an
exhaustive list of data workflow endpoints such as human, Java,
WSDL, XQuery, HTTP, SMTP, JMS, and BPEL. In addition, custom
adapters for data sources, business applications and third party
data services are easily integrated as data workflow endpoints.
This tool is designed with collaboration in mind as it seamlessly
supports the collaborative development, sharing and versioning
of workflow models across business and technical users.
Since the
TigerLogic XWMS workflow designer tool was conceptualized to
work in tandem with business process management products, its
modeling interface provides familiar modeling components such
as activity endpoints, parallelism and decisions. It also features
more advanced data workflow concepts such as execution, looping,
infinite nesting, monitoring, human interaction, versioning
and adding activity endpoints and data workflows to the taxonomy.
According to Judith Lilienfeld, Director of NetBeans Evangelism,
Sun Microsystems, “TigerLogic XWMS combines an easy to learn
and use workflow designer tool that leverages the strengths
of the NetBeans platform with a powerful workflow runtime engine
for the most neglected, but key aspect of enterprise integration
which is data.”
High-Performance,
Scalable Runtime Workflow Engine to Execute Data-Centric
Workflows
The TigerLogic XWMS powerful runtime engine executes
and monitors the data workflow models developed in the workflow
designer tool. It runs on any standards J2EE application server
and complements EII, EAI, BPM and ESB products through a variety
of standard interfaces such as Java, WSDL, XQuery, HTTP, SMTP,
JMS, and BPEL. The workflow engine supports advanced data workflow
concepts such as looping, versioning, state management, synchronous
and asynchronous processing, transactions, infinite nesting,
human interaction, notifications, dynamic user management, auditing,
logging, reporting and hot deployment plus it comes with an
intuitive browser-based administration console that provides
one-click viewing of workflow state, debugging information,
key performance indicators and graphical reports, and more.
Powerful
XML Data Management Server provides Flexibility and Performance
The TigerLogic XWMS workflow designer and workflow engine are
built on the TigerLogic XML Data Management Server (XDMS). For
the workflow designer, TigerLogic XDMS provides a flexible repository
to store and manage workflows with versioning as well as a customizable
taxonomy of trading partners, workflows, and endpoints. For
the runtime workflow engine, TigerLogic XDMS stores all of the
workflow states and activities for full monitoring, auditing,
reporting and performance measurement against Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs). The TigerLogic XDMS also provides access
and persistence of operational data. The upcoming version 3.0
of TigerLogic XDMS supports Updatable Cache Views of any data
source, including Web Services and provides up to 64GB In-memory
Cache as well as enhanced performance for Node Level Update
and true Node Level Locking. This will dramatically improve
both the data performance and flexibility of the total TigerLogic
platform.
TigerLogic

Raining
Data’s TigerLogic XWMS version 1.6 is scheduled for 1st quarter
of 2007 availability on the Windows, Linux and Solaris platforms.
The TigerLogic XWMS comes bundled with TigerLogic XDMS version
2.6.3 which is available on Windows, Linux and Solaris. TigerLogic
XDMS 2.6.3 is available now and the upcoming 3.0 version scheduled
