Bio for Will Fant
The
first things you notice about Will Fant are his
confidence, wit and ability to make you feel comfortable.
Even in the most tense of customer situations, Will’s
approach to handling each call as a unique and important
matter, instills confidence.

“There
is really a simple philosophy behind the quality of Customer
Service. The customer needs to know that in these situations,
I’m using my experience and doing everything I can to
keep their systems from wiping out data. The recovery
process is number one, and the customer is equally important.
Your customers have likely worked on the issue for hours,
if not days; by the time the call reaches you they are
often upset or in dire need. I’m approachable and that
attitude helps them know they are being handled professionally
and efficiently.”
The
results are evident in the many thank you letters Will
has received from the Pick Community over the years. His
troubleshooting background, programming skills, and knowledge
of the Pick System are invaluable and in demand.
Will’s
career began in the early 1980s when he graduated with
honors from Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK,
where he received his Airframe and Powerplant mechanics
license along with his Degree in Applied Science.
Soon
after, he returned to California and began working with
the Flight crew programs at Long Beach Airport, where
he put his knowledge to work on commercial aircraft. For
the next 10 years as a Flight Operations Crew Chief, Will
honed his analytical abilities and was responsible for
rigging Egress systems in the B1 bomber along with pre-flight
and post-flight inspections.
Will
then moved his family to Irvine, California where he began
a vocational change to become a Programmer Systems Analyst.
He went through extensive training in Cobol and C programming
and has since continued his education at the University
of California Irvine, (UCI) in Unix Administration Concepts
and Script Programming, Website Development and Programming,
Windows NT Networking Essentials, Visual Basic 5 Programming,
Visual Basic 6 Advanced Programming and Communication
and Presentation Skills.
Will
was then hired by Cannon Computers for the next year to
support their laptops and printers where he was able to
fine-tune his programming skills. He worked a lot with
the customers to resolve hardware and programming issues.
In
1994 Will met with Rick Davies and was introduced to the
Pick operating system. He quickly became an expert with
the debugger, fixing GFE's and overflow tables for AP/Native
and AP/DOS, then moved on to support AP/PRO and PicLan.
Will
Fant has been with Raining Data eight years. He’s recognized
within the Pick community for his patience and extensive
problem-solving ability in dealing with down systems and
data recovery. Bringing together his knowledge of various
programming languages, Will's ability to create adjunctive
support tools for his department has given him the reputation
of being a creative and technical thinker. He enjoys his
current position as a Senior Technical Support Specialist
for AP and D3 on AIX, DG, HP, SCO and Linux platforms
and has also proven his skills with customers, providing
onsite training and Professional Services.
Along with his family, Will enjoys kayaking and cycling
in his off-hours. Will also enjoys the piano and has been
creating music and writing songs for as long as he can
remember. His wife is his number one fan (but we kind
of like him too.)
