Bio
for Bruce Franklin
Bruce
Franklin has been working with computer systems since
1972. After studying programming and computer science
at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis (USNA),
Bruce served in the US Air Force before being Honorably
Discharged and entering the civilian computer industry.
Working
as a field engineer in Southern California for companies
such as Northern Telecom Systems Corporation, Datapoint
Corporation, and Philips Medical Systems, Bruce also spent
time in the US Naval Reserve, assigned to the Long Beach
Naval Base SIMA (Shore Intermediate Maintenance Facility)
logging about seven years with the U.S. Navy. He was assigned
to a special project team responsible for implementing
computerized maintenance programs and introducing this
pilot program to the other SIMA's in the region.
By
1982, he was working for World Computer Corporation as
LA Area Supervisor dealing with customers such as Hughes
Aircraft, McDonnell Douglas, Disneyland, Hughes Helicopters,
Marine Corp West, Nellis AFB, Orange County Postal, Los
Angeles Firefighters, Rockwell International, Universal
Studios, and TRW.
In
keeping with his need to be challenged in his job and
upwardly mobile, Bruce's next move was to Digital Equipment
Corporation, taking over the installation and preventive
maintenance group out of their El Segundo office in California.
Bruce's expertise soon expanded into the world of IBM
system 34's, system 36's and AS400's encompassing software
sales, service and support.
At
Raining Data Corporation
Two
years ago, Bruce was enticed into support at Raining Data
(then Pick Systems) to do international technical support
because, as he says, "The company had proven over
time that it was capable of providing a quality product
and resolving customer issues. It sounded like my kind
of company, poised for growth and expansion in the market
place. I have not been disappointed."
Since
coming to Raining Data, Bruce has received his certification
in Linux at California State University at Fullerton and
credits the support department's management team with
providing him with the in-house training and direction
he's needed to become a key member of the D3 ProPlus and
D3 Linux support group.
In
his time 'off-line', Bruce's passions are C4 corvettes
and racing as evidenced by his own '89 C4 which can be
seen (however briefly) breezing down the Southern California
freeways. He is a certified scuba diver and is studying
for his Rescue Diver certification. Pocket billiards,
motorcycles (Sport bikes and Cruisers), playing golf,
and 5K/10K "fun runs" round out the rest of
Bruce's non-computer activities.
