TigerLogic® High Volume Geospatial Server
Geospatial Data Management
Built on TigerLogic XDMS
High volume geospatial data in XML messages are becoming more
prevalent in government (Homeland Security, Department of Defense)
and commercial applications (Wireless Service Providers). TigerLogic
XML Data Management Server (XDMS) provides the most efficient
and low cost method to handle this data by using commodity hardware,
keeping data in XML format and using the in-memory cache.
TigerLogic XDMS is an ideal environment for rich query, conversion
and management of geographical and spatial data sets represented
in Geography Markup Language (GML). Geospatial support is seamlessly
integrated into the TigerLogic XDMS by providing Geospatial
XQuery (GSX) functions and operators over a variety of data
sources, from fast access to the native data store, to Web Services
and beyond.
Exhibit 1 is a sample use case for high volume real-time aggregation
and processing of geospatial messages on commodity hardware
costing approximately $25,000 (Sun Microsystems’ Sun Fire
T2000 Server with T1 8 Core CPU, 32 GB RAM, Solaris 10 Operating
System).

The
Technology
TigerLogic XDMS is a high performance native XML data management
server, which processes XML messages very efficiently. For additional
performance, TigerLogic XDMS supports up to 64 GB of dedicated
in-memory cache that is user configurable. TigerLogic XDMS includes
a GSX plug-in that employs GML to model geospatial data in XML.
Native GSX support, based on Open Geospatial Consortium Simple
Features specification, makes TigerLogic XDMS a natural GML
environment for building high performance and scalable geospatial
applications. Geospatial indexing is based on GiST and all supported
GML constructs in the collection are automatically indexed.
The feature
set includes extensions to the TigerLogic XDMS to support GML
types, the modules and functions used to interact with, search
and convert geographic data, and the extensions to the TigerLogic
XDMS to support management of geographic structures. GML is
a dialect of XML that can be stored, queried and managed inside
the TigerLogic XDMS. TigerLogic XDMS employs GML as its standard
representation for geographic data. Since it is XML, it can
be included and nested at any point in a document, and may be
queried using standard XQuery or GSX extensions.
