Changing
the Number of Processes Mandates a Fileload
On
an installed mvBase system, if the number of processes
which the server is to provide is altered (either increased
or decreased) then a fileload is required.
Altering
the number of processes (in either of the two places described
below) causes an immediate fileload from the Boot Tape specified
in the Server tab of the Administration Utility.
Therefore,
if you wish to change the number of processes, perform a full
filesave first, ensure that it is specified as the Boot Tape
in the Administration Utility, and then alter the number of
processes.
Altering
the number of processes can be performed in two places:
- The
Processes edit box, accessed via this path:
Administration
Utility, Server tab, Configure... button, Processes + Lines
tab
The
number of processes can only be changed when the mvBase
server is not running. If the server is
running, then the Update... button is unavailable, and prevents
changes to the number of processes and lines.
- The
Options dialog box, which is displayed when the mvBase server
is started as an application and the Autoboot option
is off (unchecked).
mvBase
allocates a certain amount of frames work workspaces for each
process and then the database itself starts at a frame after
those workspaces. If the number of processes changes, then the
number of frames required to be reserved for the workspaces
changes, and thus the starting position of the database (i.e.,
the BASE of the SYSTEM dictionary) also changes.
Since
the entire database now begins from a different position, then
a fileload is required to reload the mvBase system and all user
accounts.
NOTE: The existing database is no longer valid and cannot
be accessed. |
