Upgrading
to Release 1.2.03 from an Earlier 1.2 Release
This section
contains instructions to upgrade to mvBase 1.2.03 from
an earlier release of 1.2. One primary characteristic of this
upgrade is that a fileload is not required. If upgrading
to 1.2.03 from a release prior to 1.2, a fileload
is required, and you should refer to the mvBase Installation
Guide (rev. DE), the "Installing or Upgrading mvBase"
section.
This document
essentially duplicates the "Upgrading mvBase Without Performing
a Fileload" section found in the mvBase 1.2.03 Release
Notes, and does not add any significant additional content
or information.
CAUTION: Prior to performing any upgrade procedures, read
the "READ FIRST" section at the beginning of the current
release notes. Then follow the procedures below if you are upgrading
to mvBase 1.2.03 from 1.2.02 or 1.2.01.
NOTE: If you change the size of the database (other than
increasing the size of the last database file) or change
the number of processes, you will need to perform a fileload.
Refer to the current mvBase Installation Guide for instructions.
Performing
the Upgrade
Follow these
steps to upgrade to 1.2.03 from a previous 1.2 release:
- Log off
all users.
- Log to
the SYSPROG account.
- Perform
a FILE-SAVE.
CAUTION:
You must perform a FILE-SAVE before upgrading.
- To
perform a FILE-SAVE, select the verification option and
print the file statistics report.
- Clear
the PATCHES,SM and PATCHES,SN files.
- From
TCL in the SYSPROG account, type:
CLEAR-FILE
PATCHES,SM
CLEAR-FILE
PATCHES,SN
CAUTION:
Executing this step is very important. Otherwise,
these patches will be loaded from the COLDSTART PROC when mvBase
starts.
- Shutdown
mvBase using the :SHUTDOWN
proc in SYSPROG.
- Stop
the mvBase workstation(s) by using the mvBase Administration
utility. Note that service to clients managed by the workstation
will be interrupted by shutdown.
- Terminate
all open mv·TERM sessions, or Telnet clients, or other
clients connected via the OCX or which use the C/C++ API.
- Install
the new release of mvBase.
NOTE:
Do not uninstall any previous version of mvBase. Install
the new release over the resident version: i.e., use the existing
directories, files and configuration.
To install
over a previous release:
- Insert
the mvBase CD-ROM.
- From
the Task bar:
- Select
Start.
- Select
Run.
- Type:
drive:\setup\setup.exe
where
drive: is the location of the CD-ROM.
A
dialog box displays a message that a previous install
exists.
- Select
Continue.
- At
each of the Data Files, Processes and Lines, and Tape
Information dialog boxes, select Continue.
The
mvBase files are now installed on the hard drive. Proceed
immediately to the next procedure, "Starting mvBase
After Upgrade."
Starting
mvBase 1.2.03 after Upgrade
- From
the Administration Utility, start the mvBase server as an
application. You may use this path of buttons, icons, tabs
or fields:
Start
button ä Programs
option ä
mvBaseoption ä
Administration Utility option ä
Server tab ä
Server Application (highlighted in the Run As field) ä
Start
button
CAUTION:
Do not select the Fileload option in the Server tab
or the System Configuration dialog box. If the Fileload
option is selected in either location, deselect it prior to
selecting the final Start button above.
- Log to
the SYSPROG account.
Type:
SYSPROG
- Type
these three commands at TCL, pushing the Enter key after each:
T-SELECT
1
T-ONLINE
ACCOUNT-RESTORE
UPGRADE.MVBASE
NOTE:
After executing the above commands, you may need to redefine
your system switches if you did not use the default system
switch settings previous to this upgrade. Refer to the "System
Switches" topic in the mvBase 1.2.03 Release Notes
for additional information on default settings.
The
system prompts you for the name of the account on the tape.
- Respond
by identifying the pertinent account on tape. Type:
SYSPROG
- Type:
LOGTO
UPGRADE.MVBASE
This
restores the necessary items from the new database and updates
the SYSPROG account.
- Back
up the system:
- Log
to SYSPROG.
- Execute
the FILE-SAVE command to save the upgraded database to
tape.
The
upgrade and initial startup procedures are complete.
Refer
to the current mvBase Installation Guide and mvBase
Tech Tips (located on the Web site) for additional information
on configuring and using the mvBase server, workstation,
clients and/or peripheral devices.
