mvBase Tech Tip: # mv127
Pertinent Release(s): Release 1.3.00
Pertinent Windows O/S: NT 4.0

Installing the mvBase Server or Workstation as Windows NT services on a Backup Domain Controller

There is an operational issue on mvBase 1.3.00 when installing the mvBase server or mvBase workstation as Windows NT services on a BDC (Backup Domain Controller) in Windows NT networks.

The fact that the system is a BDC could prevent the services from starting. The problem does not occur if the system is a PDC (Primary Domain Controller); a normal, non-DC, Domain Member server; or a Windows NT Workstation.

The following error will be reported in the Windows Event Log (system):

EVENT ID 7013

"Logon attempt with current password failed with the following error:Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer."

Workaround

After installing either the mvBase server or the mvBase workstation as services from the mvBase Administration Utility, the network administrator needs to add the NT "Log on as a service" user right to the user id specified in the installation dialog. Then, the administrator must synchronize the BDC with the PDC (Primary Domain Controller).

This issue will be resolved on the next mvBase maintenance release.
